Nylon Polyesters

Nylon polyesters are the polymers, so they are macromolecules made up of a high number of the monomers. These monomers are covalently bonded to give rise to the nylon polyesters. Their properties are greatly dependent on the arrangement and the type of monomers in the polymer molecules. There is a minute difference between the nylon, and the polyesters, as nylon is composed of the nitrogen atoms, whereas in the structure of polyesters there are no nitrogen atoms.

Nylon is the commonly used name for the class of polymer molecules composed of polyamides. Plastics are also included in this group and due to their thermal properties, they are generally known as thermoplastics. Due to the method of its synthesis, it belongs to the class of the condensation polymers. Monomers which are employed for the production of nylon are dicarboxylic acids and diamines. The condensation polymerization reaction of these two polymers makes the peptide bonds. The majority of the forms of the nylon are semi-crystalline, and they are composed of the symmetrical backbones. Due to this reason, nylons are good fibers. Its name is derived according to the number of the carbon atoms in the dicarboxylic acids and diamine monomers. Generally, they are tough materials having good thermal and chemical resistance, so they can be used in high-temperature environments. It is also used for the production of fiber and film and serves as an oxygen barrier for the packaging of food material.

Polyester describes the long-chain polymers which are composed of the ester groups in the main chain. Chemically, by weight, they are 85% of an ester terephthalic acid, and dihydric alcohol. They are formed by the condensation reactions between the diols (alcohols) and the dicarboxylic acids. There are two types of polyesters, saturated and unsaturated. The saturated polyesters are not reactive, and they are composed of saturated backbones. Whereas, unsaturated polyesters are composed of the vinyl unsaturation, so these polyesters are very reactive. The fibers of polyesters are extremely strong. It is a durable material and is resistant to stretching, shrinking, and chemicals. Most commonly its applications are in the food industry, and textile industry.

Nylon polyesters are the polymer materials and are synthesized by the condensation polymerization. In their synthesis water molecules are produced as byproducts and they are significantly important in the various industries. Due to the presence of amide group nylons are also known as polyamides and another name of the polyesters is polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
